What is your background and how did you get involved in the car wash industry?

I have been around the car wash business my entire life. I will never forget growing up being on vacation with my family, we would always stop by a car wash just to see how they operate and for my dad to see if he can capture any new ideas to bring back to 7 Flags. I could not for the life of me figure out why we always were stopping at these different washes. Now that I am fully immersed in the car wash industry I am doing the same things my dad did. Being a third generation in a family owned business comes with a ton of pressure to keep the business growing and up to the standards set the previous 52 years.

Tell us about your business?

7 Flags Car Wash is a family owned and operated company that has been serving Solano County’s car washing and car care needs since 1964. 7 Flags offers full service car washes, exterior washes and auto detailing in our Vallejo, Fairfield, and Vacaville locations, along with express car washes in Vacaville and at our Sunrise Car Wash in Citrus Heights. From a fast and convenient exterior wash to a full service car wash that includes vacuuming, windows cleaned, dusting of dash, and from car detailing to express lube and oil service, 7 Flags covers virtually all of your auto’s cleaning and preventive maintenance needs.

What is one of the biggest challenges you see facing the industry? What are the biggest opportunities?

There are many challenges facing the car wash industry in the coming years, the main challenge that is staring all California operators in the face right now is the drastic rise of minimum wage. It is going to be a great challenge to keep our labor goals in line, while still giving the customer the quality fast service they have come to expect. Some other challenges include water conservation, this came to the forefront during the drought, but we can always get better. One big challenge that we are already starting to deal with are the self-braking vehicles going through car washes, as technology continues to improve hopefully all manufactures will have a setting in the vehicle that makes them compatible for going through car washes. Some of the opportunities include the fact that there are so many more people driving which as we all know is creating more traffic, but as a car washer it also means that there are many more customers available for us to wash. Another opportunity that has surfaced recently is the cities cracking down on their residents washing their vehicles in their driveways due to the waste of water and the negative impact on the environment. We have seen a great impact of new customers that have never tried a tunnel car wash before since the drought started.

Why did you decide to join the WCA Board of Directors?

The main reason I decided to join the WCA Board of Directors was to follow in the footsteps of my father. He has gotten a great deal of information from all of the different car wash boards he has served on over his 50 years in the business. I am very eager to learn from all of the great minds that are serving with myself on the Board, and hopefully provide some insight to help others.

What is WCA doing that you are most excited about?

The most exciting aspect of the WCA for myself is they are evolving with the times and trying multiple new things to continue to help car wash operators on the West Coast.

How long have you been a member of WCA? What value has WCA provided to you and your business?

7 Flags has been a proud member of the WCA since its inception, and it has provided a myriad of different values to us over the years. The most important value that we have gained of the top of my head is the workers compensation insurance that we have gotten from the WCA through the Western Carwash Insurance Program.
